FASTag overview

FASTag is a part of government affairs. It is an allotment of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program which is initiated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and under the protocol of NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) & IHMCL (Indian Highways Management Company Limited). The use of FASTag will help to make the automatic transactions of toll charges at toll plaza without making a stop for cash payment. The amount of your fare will be directly deducted from your registered bank account with the FASTag account.

The process of FASTag works on the principle of advanced Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology and a small tag is affixed on the vehicle's windscreen to make a hassle free trip on National Highways.

How to get Fastag?

From Point-of-Sale (POS):

You can get your FASTag directly from the toll plaza. Collect the required documents like RC of vehicle, passport size photo and ID proof and register for the FASTag.

Online Registration:

There are at present 22 banks and online web portals like Paytm, Amazon etc which are offering fastags. Banks have an online registration form on their websites. You can submit mentioned documents online to create a FASTag account. Further you can activate and recharge your FASTag account from the My FASTag app.

What is FASTag?

FASTag is an easy to use, rechargeable tag which helps in the automatic withdrawal of toll fares from your registered bank account and will let you depart from the toll plaza without making a stop for doing a payment at tolls. These tags are linked to your prepaid accounts and have no expiry date. You just have to regularly recharge it s that your account will not get blacklisted.

FASTag is an initiative of Indian government towards a cashless India and further is developed by NPCI to hike the cashless payments at all Indian toll plaza to save time. In India, there are more than 600 toll plazas which are currently using fastags or Fastracks. The government of India has made the use of FASTag compulsory from December 15, 2019 for all the vehicles.

Hi, in order to buy FASTag, you are requested to kindly visit any of the Point of Sale (PoS) locations at Toll Plazas / PoS outlets of the NETC Member Banks / their distribution agents/ their Sales offices. Alternatively, you can also apply online at the respective issuer bank's website or at

FASTag can be used in all toll plazas of National highways and for a few State Highways where it has been implemented. However, we request you to check the list of FASTag enabled plazas on your bank's website to ensure it works for the highways you use.
In case the FASTag gets damaged, you as a vehicle owner / user should approach your Tag issuing bank and request them for a replacement.
Currently there is cashback offer of 2.5% from NHAI on all Toll payments done using FASTag and this cashback offer is valid till March-2020. The cash back amount will be credited back in the tag-linked account on a monthly basis.
The tag has a validity of 5 years and after purchasing, you only need to recharge/ top up the tag as per your usage.

Customers can recharge the FASTag account in the denomination of 100 rupees and the maximum amount of recharge is decided basis on the type of vehicle & account link to FASTag. The maximum amount of recharge is defined on all bank’s websites.

In case FASTag is not acceptable at the toll plaza, the Customer should call on the 1033 toll-free number and register the complaint about the same. 1033 call center is set up by NHAI (Govt. of India) for all road assistance to the highway user which includes FASTag as well.
Customer can use only one tag with one vehicle. Once Tag is affixed on the windshield of the vehicle, it cannot be removed as it will get destroyed and will not work at the toll plaza.

In case FASTag is not acceptable at the toll plaza, Customer should call on the 1033 toll free number and register the complaint for the same. 1033 call center is set up by NHAI (Govt. of India) for all road assistance to the highway user which includes FASTag as well.
It is digital initiative of Govt. of India where all the National Highway toll plazas are mandated to have FASTag lane. In case any plaza is not having the FASTag lane or not accepting the FASTag please call on 1033 and register your complaint.

FASTag is designed to pass the benefits of round trip savings automatically. ... The first time a customer crosses the toll, Rs. 30 is deducted from the FASTag. When the customer comes back, then the difference between Rs. 45 and Rs. 30, which is Rs. 15 is deducted.
A customer may create personnel Tag account by registering online, and can have the facility of topping up the FASTag account through online modes i.e credit card, debit card, internet banking etc.
You will need to call customer care number of the issuer agency to block your FASTag. Once you take a new account, the issuer agency will transfer the balance to the new account.
Customer will receive an SMS alert in your registered phone number each time an amount is deducted from your FASTag account. Fee payable on each toll plaza may be seen on in addition to displayed at concerned toll plazas.
The primary point of contact for the vehicle owner/ user is the Issuer Agency, contact details for which will be shared at the time of FASTag issuance. IHMCL can be approached as the next escalation level
